Essentials for Rainy Season in Nigeria

Hi  guys!
You will not believe it, I’ve been oblivious to the fact that its rainy season, I’m usually indoors when its raining and unlike the sunshine of those days that even when you are Indoors it will wake you up in the morning and knock on your window ( I have a guide to surviving that sort of weather here)  , I and this rainy season have had a pretty good relationship, until I was getting back from the blogger forum I attended today and it started raining, it still didn’t totally occur to me until I had almost gotten home, it was still raining but I had managed to remain dry so I was feeling pretty good till a car zoomed past me and splashed so much water on me that even if rain had been beating me since I left Ikeja to festac I won’t still be as wet as I was πŸ˜₯πŸ˜₯. Luckily I was only about two minutes away from home.
Anyway now that I’m very aware of what season it is
Here are your rainy season essentials:

Umbrella: this is a must have during the rainy season ( for Nigerians sha) , get a collapsible one so you don’t end up looking like you are carrying a walking stick around, when it stops raining.

Raincoat: have only just discovered that rain coats can be super stylish if you don’t end up with those rainbow colored one that have all the primary and secondary colours on them
A see through rain coat like this

would ensure that nobody misses the fact that you’re an absolute style star

Jelly shoes : get your rubber shoes on, you don’t want to destroy your leather and suede shoes , I like that there are so many super stylish jellies in the market now, if you are looking for cheap rubber sandals yaba is your guy.( p.s yaba is a place not a guy o)

Water resistant accessories: if you are an accessory person a water resistant wristwatch is a great idea this season

Bags are accessories right? Have seen some beautiful rubber bags that don’t take away from your style you should own.

Another thing I’d suggest is to carry those mini zip lock bags to put anything that’s precious to you and can be destroyed in the rain in before you put them in your bag

I think you can even use your phone through a zip lock bag,Instead of buying water resistant gadgets just because its rainy season

Waterproof makeup: my ladies, u don’t want your mascara or eyeliner running down your face all because rain beat you invest in water proof make up so you can still be as fly as ever during this season. You know the type of makeup you wear to the pool when that boy who think he’s smart takes you swimming on the first date.( but do people really go swimming on their first date? πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚)

If there’s anything you think I missed out please let me know in the comment section

Which season do you prefer? Rainy or dry season
I complain about the weather through out the year but I definitely like the coolness of the rainy season, I like it  more when I’m indoors before it starts to fall or when it falls at midnight . sleep is usually great during this period so let me hear your own thoughts.

  1. How did it not occur to you even as you moved err kwa? Lol you should see the way I left the house to get something that was sold at some streets away when it was seriously drizzing.
People walking quickly or with umbrellas and I was just acting like I felt nothing.
Even had to stand for a while to let a cobbler fix my broken shoe.
    Lmao I get you!

On a good rainy day tho, shit don’t matter except protecting my tab or phone. Every other thing can be soakedπŸ˜πŸ˜‘πŸ˜

  2. Neighbour neighbour! 😊 didn’t know we share the same hood. Staying in Benin throughout my uni days taught me harsh weather lessons. I always take my small umbrella with me whether its rainy season or not. That raincoat is cute though!

Umbrella is key, and collapsible so you can always pack it up. Oh I should try the zip lock for my essentials. I hate when cars splash water …sorry dear.

  5. Hi Tonye,

Super helpful tips, thank you for sharing. That raincoat is so fashion forward!

I prefer rainy season, the weather is cool and pleasant. I dislike being hot and sticky.

I’ve always been suspicious about water-proof makeup, does it really live up to its promise? πŸ˜€

    1. I know! The raincoat is so cool, I’m all for rainy season.
Water proof make up is a real thing o! Girls are not smiling o,but I don’t expect anyone to get a water proof foundation just because of the rain… Waterproof liner and mascara should the trick and maybe a finishing spray.
